HI All,
I'm running a Merc Vengeance SS 14 x 10 prop on a 2010 60hp bigfoot on the back of a little 16 foot apex quest pontoon. Runs really well with crazy hole shot and a top speed of up to 22mph with two people at 6000 to almost 6100 rpm. I needed a backup prop and decided to go for a little speed. I picked up a used Turning Point 14 x 11 Hustler. It performed horribly. Top speed was around 18mph at 5800 and from there it just over-reved the motor. Never really gained speed but the rpms went up to almost 6400. I couldn't tell if I hit a rev limiter. I even yanked the hub kit out to make sure the rubber wasn't spun out. (it wasn't) Whats going on here? I know this isn't a top dollar prop, but I expected less rpms and a little higher speed at the expense of hole shot. Is this to do with comparing SS to alumininum? I'd love some recommendations.
