I've been breaking in a new long block in my 22' GlasPly Hardtop this week. I've never known the boat to run right, until this last week. Book (VP Service Manual) has my VP570A at 4200-4400 WOT. With the VP15x19 aluminum on my 280 I'm getting right at 4200....of course I've only brought it to that a couple times and only for a few seconds. But it is topped out. Been doing some reading, and wondering if a 16x17 might get me a couple hundred more and be better for my motor pushing my heavy GP. Thoughts? Thanks!

Also for the future, thoughts on converting my 280SP to a DP. Heavy Boat, pros vs cons?

Re: Proping new motor

Get a few hours on the motor and see if it loosens up; turning a little more rpm on top before considering a prop change.

What is your speed at 4200 rpm?

Your boat's dry weight is listed at about 2800lbs; not that heavy.

About 40mph non gps...just dash. It gets right up and moving along sweet at about 2800. I haven't gone long distances yet, as I was breaking it in...but want to do what I can from the getgo for the new motor.
