hello

Im am currently running a 77'16ft Sidewinder with a 69' 115 johnson with a 17 pitch SS prop @ 47.1 on GPS (rpm not known). I have a 83' Evinrude 150hp that is being brought into use. The boat weighs on average 1500lbs all in including the 150hp. Assuming a rpm of 5800 what pitch/type of prop should i be putting on ( i have never run this motor on this boat). My goal is top speed/handleing.

Thanks

The old "Slide-winders" has a half-round bottom, right? Or is it a sharp V? No pad if I remember correctly....

That is correct, the first 8ft of the keel from the transom is rounded. It makes for a loose but fun boat.

That makes for some critical balance issues. More hp, weight and speed will tend to highlight the handling issues youre seeing now. It can be done just make sure you have a really good steering system. Personally, I like the feel of a loose boat. To a point...........

Any high speeds as far are reserved for straight lines, i have always had to back off to 30-35 mph to comfortable turning sharp. The weight added will be about 150lbs, similiar to having 2 people sitting in the back. If I could afford it i would buy a mercury 150hp new. However this motor cost only 300$ with blown crank seals and no prop. Come July well see how she goes. Watch for my posts.

If you really want a light, snappy 150 look for a Evin/John 60 degree 150.
