I have an 86' PRO V 150 Yamaha that is propped with a Turbo m 14.25 x 26 prop. this prop was on the motor when I bought the boat. I have read so much about over propping that my curiosity is arroused. My motor is on a 18.5 ft fisher bass boat. I get 65+ at wot trimmed out. The speedo only goes to 65. The guy I bought the boat from had the powerhead replaced and it is newer than 86'. Is this the proper prop size??

Re: Proper Yamaha Prop size

The top rpm is about 53 to 5500, and the prop is a 3 bladed prop.

OK, lets look at a couple of things. A Turbo M is a Merc prop -- no big deal but Turbo doesn't make a 14 1/4 x 26 3 blade. Could it be a 14 1/2 x 26? Or a different pitch? The numbers on the hub will tell us.

Let us know and well figure the slip % and go from there.

Good luck!

I have re-checked the prop and the size is 14.25 x 26. The only other numbers I saw on the prop were 135 6 16 (or 18). I could'nt read the last two digits very well.

We need exact top rpm and speed (gps is good) to calculate slip %. Taking a guess based off of 65 mph at 5500 rpm, you are at about 12% which is not bad although I think you could turn that motor a little higher.

Let us know!
