I have been searching through the threads trying to find a chart to determine what is the proper plug for my motor. I found a chart for OMC but not Merc. So I apoligize for asking this as the answer is probably posted somewhere, But... What would be the correct plug for a 2002 merc 225 hp EFI outboard serial # OT467622. I recently purchased the motor and the plug in it now is a champion QL77CC. Is this the right one?

Re: Proper Spark Plug

Thanks for the help. I found which NGK plug it lists, but my local Merc dealer says it is recommended to use this champion plug, which he can order in for $14 a plug. I can get the NGK at the local hardware store for $4. $60 is $60 savings. Is there a difference between the two ? Should I go with what is recommended and order the champion.

Look at the tag on your motor. The recommended plug is shown on that tag or in your owners manual. What plugs are installed in it currently? That would be a clue. Merc generally recommends NGK plugs. Are you sure the dealer didn't screw up during the cross reference process?

Re: Proper Spark Plug

I found the tag under the hood which says it is the champion plug. QL77CC.
And the dealer had to double check as he was sure it would take an NGK plug. So I am down to whether I can use the NGK instead of the Champ ? I am having a hard time finding it.

Yes -- if the tag says Champion, then use Champions.
