proper prop for 5.0

Just bought a 2007 Rinker 192SE with Mercruiser 5.0MPI 260HP. It came with 14.5X19 aluminum 3 blade prop. Rinker tech rep tells me it is the correct prop for the boat. I believe I should be getting better performance across the spectrum. The hole shot is OK but but the boat labors to get on plane with a few passengers and a skiier. It's diffucult to keep it on plane below 20mph. The tachometer says RPMs are 5600 and the GPS speed is 50mph at WOT when just me and the wife are on board. It turns a few less RPMs with 3 kids along. Specs say WOT should be between 4600 and 5000 RPMs. I never hit the motor's rev imiter so I assume the tach is incorrect. I want to try a different prop but don't want to hurt the holeshot or hit the rev limiter. Gas consumption is good so far (~5gph) but I have not run it hard for too long yet.

I've been told to do almost everything from adjust the pitch, to add trim tabs, to add a whale tale to the drive, or to add cupping to the current prop. Dealer wants to sell me new prop. He's not much help. Any input will be appreciated.

Re: proper prop for 5.0

When did 5.o mercs become 260 hp.

I thought 220 i could be wroong not the first or last time i bet.

If your wot is between 4600-5000 rpm im not sure that correct ether, why would you push it to 5600 rpm.

If after you confirm with a gps and a external tach than i would if your going 600 over wot than you need a larger pitch prop.

If, if, if.

Thats all i can post.

Every 2 degrees= 300-400 rpm drop. That would mean a 23 pitch.

If your numbers are right.

I have a boat your size with a 220hp v8. I run 19 to wakeboard and 21 to cruise I bet you would need a 21/23 combo

Ayuh,....

1st off,... This is a Prop question,+ belongs over in the Prop Forum....

2ndly,... Life is abunch of trade-offs,...
You Can't not hurt the Holeshot,+ Not over-rev it....

I'm guessng you already have the best suited Prop now,...
But,.. Your info is sketchy at best,... Guessing at the rpms Don't cut it...
And,...
If you want to go Sking,... Ditch the Boatload of Passengers....
Or,...
Buy a boat with a Much Bigger Motor.....

It does seem you need to have the tach checked.
I/Os have a reputation of being sluggish out of the hole(lots of stern weight). Can you move some of the passengers or gear forward?Do you trim in for hole shot.Is it getting full throttle? Is it in good tune?bottom clean.
The best all around cure for sluggish hole shot is trim tabs.they will help hole shot, stay on plane with less power, resist no wake speed wander, boat will run more stable.Hopefully the tach is high because if you have to increase pitch you will lose hole shot.
