Re: Proper engine break in procedure

Hey, you need to do this the first time you start the engine is as soon as it starts raise the rpm to 1500-2000 and let it sit at speed for 15 mins, dont let it idle at all! That is so you break in the cam properly. During that time watch the gagues like temp, oil pressure and only shut it down if it is to hot or the oil pressure is to low. After the cam break in you can start driving the boat but just make sure u very the speed of the engine. Also keep the speed below 4000 rpm for the first 5hrs or so. Then change the oil at 5hrs and after that u can start driving it normaly. Sry for the long post.

Happy Boating:);):D:cool:

Start it, never let it get under 2000 for 20 minutes; but keep varying the rpm the whole time, without going under 2000 rpm. That higher rpm keeps the crank splashing oil all over the cam-cams have hardened surfaces, that are harder to break in than the crank and rings.
Then use slow throttle, but enough to get on plane quickly. Then use and vary rpm; stay on plane, so as to not lug it. Vary the rpm every 10 minutes, let it come down off plane- idle for 3 minutes, then do it again. For the first 4 hours. Then after on plane, run it up almost wot for 2 minutes, then back down to 75% of full throttle again. Keep changing the rpm, and load; breaks in the rings. At 10 hours, change the oil and filter, and if you have hydraulic lifters, check the load, and correct. Then do it again, but use wot for 5 minutes every hour. Change all, then go for it.

I meant, change all (oil and filter) At 20 hours, then it is broke in.

Ok cool...but I dont get what you mean by "check the load"? How do I tell if I have hydraulic lifters?

When I'm idiling in the water you want me to keep it above 2000rpms but very, so that means around 2500rpms??

Read the manual as far as finding if you have hydraulics. You can run it at steady 2000 rpm without varying, as long as no load is on it.
