Propeller Spin - Shift Shaft - Is this an issue?

All,

Alpha One Gen One.

I have my lower unit removed and getting ready to install it...

I know that turning the shift shaft in the lower unit clockwise will place the unit in forward gear.

I am able to turn the shift shaft clockwise. The propeller will then not be allowed to spin counter-clockwise. It is my understand that this is correct.

However, while keeping the shift shaft turned clockwise. if I spin the propeller clockwise, it spins freely, but the drive shaft does NOT spin. Is this correct?

PLEASE NOTE, if I spin the driveshaft , it WILL spin the propeller.

I wasn't sure if spinning the propeller should move the drive shaft or not. But I do know that when I spin the drive shaft, the propeller does move.

So, to summarize...
WHILE IN FORWARD GEAR (Shift shaft clockwise)
1) Can't spin the prop counter clockwise - Drive shaft doesn't spin
2) Can spin the prop clockwise - Drive shaft doesn't spin
3) Can spin the drive shaft - Propeller does spin

This correct or not?

It is difficult to spin the prop counterclockwise. You should be able to turn it a little to line up the drive shaft splines when putting it together again. Once all together it is coupled directly to the engine and you ain't goin ta turn it.
Yes
Yes

P.S. from the "book":
"NOTE: Rotate propeller shaft counterclockwise only
after shift shaft splines have engaged. This will help
engage drive shaft splines".

Think about it. For the gear to turn the prop in fwd is has to turn it clockwise.By turning it counterclockwise your holding the gears locked and the prop locks, forcing the prop will turn the driveshaft bacwards also flipping the impeller vanes backward. turning it clockwise unloads the gears and the prop only turns. The opposite is for reverse.
Splined shaft turned clockwise, install SS washer, bungee cord to hold prop locked counterclockwise, install lower making sure the shoe lines up correctly on the splined shaft (in a straight line and mates to the upper shoe BEFORE you tighten the nuts)
