Propeller shaft end play

[88 Capri (2022 SOTY)]

I'm getting ready to go over the stern drive of my 88 Capri with the 2.3 liter and noticed end play on the propeller shaft is this normal to have any?

If you mean across the diameter axis of the shaft ... no. If you mean rotationally around the circumference, then that can be normal.

By rotationally do you mean in and out? It's in and our not side to side(across axis)

In and out , Yes
Side to side No
Install the drive. remove the prop, start and put in gear.
There should be no wobble. Should run straight and true.

End play = in and out
runout = axial

To answer the question, yes on mine there is just a tiny bit of in and out play. Just enough you can barely feel it.

This is probably 3/32" at most. If I need to rectify it what would I look at?
is this due to bearing wear or improper torquing
