Propeller pitch

After reading some posts, I realized the importance of a tach. I installed a tach and went out with a re-hubbed prop. It is a used propeller with a few nicks and bends, but nothing major. (13 3/8 x 17) My readings were 35 mph @ 5600 rpms. I have a 1994 Johnson 90 horse with a recommended wot at 4500-5500 ppm. My boat is an old aluminum semi-v with regular fishing load on it. Before spending big bucks for a new prop, I would like to hear your recommendations on size and pitch for a new SS prop. Thanks in advance.

Re: Propeller pitch

the 13-3/8X17 in stainless would be a good choice..5600 RPM is good, and you could stand a little more-and can get it in other ways..engine heigth, etc.

What size boat are you running in feet? I have a 17ft Tracker v hull with a 12 3/3 X 17 pitch and it is too small. RPM to high. I think a 19 would be better. You may find the same thing. Gets on plane quick but RPM get too high at WOT.

Re: Propeller pitch

If we go to a 19" in this case, we will be at approx. 5200RPM..this is TOO LOW!
with a 17" you may be able to lift the engine on the transom and gain another 150-200R's, and put you in the 5700-5800 range which would be best for your engine.
Also, hull design and gearcase ratios come into effect when you start comparing 2 different engines.
