Propeller pitch

I was looking for a replacement prop for my 15hp Mariner at Michigan Wheel and I noticed that there is a pretty big difference in price between the 12 pitch and the 11 pitch. I have a 14' aluminum boat and was wondering if there is a big difference between the two. The blades on the prop I have now are pretty bent so it is hard to judge it's performance.

Re: Propeller pitch

You should check out the WOT and Propeller selection notes in the Engine FAQ section. That info will hep you a lot.

Re: Propeller pitch

Unfortunately I do not have a tach on my motor so I am not able to determine the rpms at WOT. Even with the damaged prop, the boat gets up on plane with my son and I on board. I did look at the engine FAQs before I posted but since the pitch difference was so small I wondered if it even mattered.

Re: Propeller pitch

Thanks for the help. I will probably go with the 11 pitch and have the other prop rebuilt. I usually fish back in the creeks (lake Ray Roberts)so I really never run wide open anyway.

It will make a 300-500 RPM difference at WOT.

Can't see how you work that out Jeff - but I'm a dummy where props are concerned.

That seems a hell of a big rev change for a 1" pitch difference.
