I recently bought a Caravalle ( with lots of help from everyone)and have a question on props. I've had to replace one prop already and I'm pretty sure I need to replace this one. It has some nicks on one blade and another is missing a small piece.

The question is does anyone know anything about composite props. I've read about them and they seem cheaper and may hold up better in my conditions. Also, they seem to be 4 blade instead of 3. Mine has a 3 blade prop. I don't know if it matters or not. Also should I replace it before using the boat again or am I OK for 1 or 2 trips until I can find a replacement.

Re: Propeller help

balance is everything, if you file off a half ounce of metal off one blade, you need to do the same to the others. as far as what is a good prop for your boat who knows, I depends on many different variables........sorry

Howdy, Grp79.

Sounds like your props are in the habit of feeling their way along the bottom.

If that is the typical water you are in I would suggest a prop guard and an onboard spare prop.

Composite props are cheap, but not repairable, like aluminum props. They break up pretty easily when you try rock chopping with them.

You can repair a good aluminum prop several times for the price of a comprop.

Good luck. :)

You're unfortunately right about feeling my way along the bottom. It's apparently pretty common here in NC I'm told because these aren't natural lakes. Oh well. I was reading another post about the prop gaurd and it sounded ideal. I'm definitely going to look into it.

I was thinking about adding a hydrofoil fin to my I/O. Do you know if it and the fin are a good or bad idea together.
