Have a 2005 merc 2.5 that is used as a trolling motor on 16 ft with 40 merc as main motor, the 2.5 at lowest setting moves the boat faster than I want for trolling, have talked to merc and there is not a prop avalible with a lower pich ( prop is 7 3/8 x 6 ). There is one ajustment on the carb that merc tell me is the low speed ajustment , but Iam reluctent to play with it because motor is under warranty. An help short of draging a bucket.<br />Thks

Re: prop

Leave the big motor in the water in gear. That should add some drag. Don't mess with the idle mixture screw (you probably can't get at it). The one adjustment you describe is probably the idle speed adjustment. You won't damage the motor by changing it. But if you're drawing gas from a remote tank, you might lose pumping power if the rpms are too low. Using the tank on the motor, you can dial that down as much as it'll go and still run.
