1995 Rinker 232 5.7L Bravo III

When I turn fairly sharphly I hear a shudder/groan. I first thought it was cavitation, then I thought it was the prop ventilating, but now I'm beginning to think that I might have a bad gimbal bearing or U-joint. I'm not sure, but it seems that it is happening with less of a drastic turn of the wheel. Short of pulling the drive, how do I determine if this is ventilation or a gimbal going out?

Any help is appreciated.

(Thanks to those who help on this board, I appreciate the resource that it offers.)

Shawn

Re: Prop Ventilating vs. Gimbal Problem

by watching the tach. ventilation will cause a noticable rise in RPM with no movement of the throttle. if the drive has not been off in the past year its due anyway. may be time to catch up on the scheduled maint.
