Just did a comparison between two props on my 18' Thompson Sea Lancer with Merc 140 I/O. What are your thoughts?
Old Prop is Merc SS Vengeance 21p
New Prop is Turning Point Aluminum Legacy/Hustler 19p
Conditions:
Temp: 59
Water temp: 57
Location: 5 miles northwest of Green Bay, WI on the Bay of Green Bay
Waves: 1-2ft for old prop test, 2-4ft for new prop
Acceleration Old New
0-10 1.3 .9
0-15 2.7 1.8
0-20 4.1 3.0
0-25 6.0 4.9
0-30 8.0 6.9
RPM & Speed Old New
1000 5.5 5.1
1500 7.0 6.4
2000 8.5 7.8
2500 13.5 12.4
3000 21 19
3500 26 25
4000 30.1 28.4
4500 35 34
WOT 37.7@4800 37.4@4800
Did not trim to much on the new prop due to the wave height. I think I might be able to get a little more out of it but may also send my RPM's above the recommended range of 4400-4800 for my engine.
The biggest issue I see with my 21p is with a full boat the engine only will turn 4400@ WOT and 35mph. I suspect that the 19p will be better with load.
