Prop spurs

After a bad experience last year (took a lot of convincing to get the woman back on board), we're thinking it might be the time to invest in some spurs for the prop shaft. Anybody have any advice on the best type/brand and how well they work? Any other nifty ways to clear a fouled prop?

Thanks

Re: Prop spurs

Inboard - straight shaft - aquamet 22 x 1.25" diam. A few inches between hull and prop hub to get something in there (like spurs). I know it's possible to get them in there, just have no experience with them. Are there other options? Does anybody have any thoughts or warnings about them?

You may be able buy a semi weedless prop. You might consult with Aquamet.

Re: Prop spurs

Me neither; except its some sort a doodad that helps keep the prop clear of weeds.
My experience has been the best way to keep the weeds clear is to avoid those areas.
Unfortunately not always possible.

Weeds aren't the issue here guys, it's rope that's nasty! If you haven't had a long length of random poly wrapped around your shaft and prop yet - beware. It can be a tough situation. You have to jump over the side and deal with a ball of rope as hard as a rock... We wrapped the prop really well last year. Having to take a breath, dive under and cut a few times before grabbing another breath. And after 45 mins or so of that - in ice cold water - we were free. Now you can see why I'm interested in this topic!

Me either and I've been around lobster rigs since my teens.
Even had a hatch cut in one of the rigs so we could cut at the rope without calling a diver...
Theres cages as well but those spurs look pretty neat, might pi_ _-off acouple lobster fishermen, parting their trawls on slack water...
