I was reinstalling my prop this weekend (s.s. 19p merc outdrive)and i noticed that the washer that holds the nut and securing tab-washer has groves in it that i thought whould also seat into the outside of the props hub.
But after instaling it it doesent lock into it.
do i have the wrong size of spacer washers
or is this normal?

purchased the boat last year and did not lose the prop or have it come lose, but i sure dont want to either,

I dont see how the locking washer with the bendable tabs can work if it does not lock into a fixed position.

thanks

russman

Re: prop spacers and locking tabs

You have to bend the tabs down into the outside of the prop hub. Just turn the prop nut a little so 3 of the tabs will lineup, then bend them down with a screwdrive. That hub is splined and won't turn, and the nut sits inside the tab washer.
