Hi,I smashed my prop into a rock (in reverse!) I changed the prop but the motor is running badly even in the yard.Every thing looks ok,compression good.Could it be a bent drive shaft? Is there any reason I can't remove the lower unit and run it (other than over heating)to test the powerhead? Thanks ,Timb

Re: Prop smash

DO NOT RUN THE MOTOR WITH THE LOWER UNIT REMOVED!!! You will kill the powerhead, check the flywheel key, maybe it was sheered off on impact. Also put motor in neutral and turn prop shaft to see if it is binding or bent. Hope this helps.

Re: Prop smash

If the motor stopped abruptly it may have partially sheared the flywheel key and altered the timing causing poor running.
