What prop size would you recomend for a 235 evinrude? I was thinking 13 1/4- 13 1/2, with 17 pitch.. What do you think? Is for a 19' V-hull.

Re: prop size

It all depends on what rpm the 235 runs with your boat. IMO, unless the boat is extremely heavy, the 17 seems a little too small.

I'd try (in order of preference):

14 X 19 Stainless
14 1/2 X 19 aluminum
15 1/4 X 19 Stainless High Perf
14 1/2 X 18 aluminum 4-blade

Re: prop size

dont you have a 15 spline prop shaft on that lower unit? those 13in props seem small for that motor. what is the size you have on there now??
forktail has the correct props listed based on 19-22' runabout with speeds from 36 to 49. this is from an omc accessory catalog.

Re: prop size

Well I dont pick the boat up for another two weeks, so I dont know about the spline. As for 36-49??? Im looking at more like 60-65 on this boat. It is rated for a 160.. I agree probably needs a bigger prop, just wasnt sure how big and what pitch, also what are your thoughts on the variable pitch props?

Re: prop size

Don't mean to nitpick ,but that's a lot of motor for a rig topped with 160.Two drawbacks.
1-Wardens
2-Transom and boat posture.
I'm thinking this rig will handle higher pitches.Say,21-23"pitch.Main thing is to prop it for recommended WOT range for motor.Has this rig been in use since married with a 235?

Re: prop size

Yes, thats the whole reason I went with the 235, thats the only thing thats ever been on it. Im the second owner and original owner put a 235 on new when purchased. The transom is good and solid but I went ahead and put some extra support in just to be sure.

Re: prop size

Thanks, and have looked there already. I already know the cost just wanted some opinions on size. Also would still like to hear what people think of the variable pitch props.

Re: prop size

Big motor, little boat, high speed = large pitch

26 pitch looks about right....if it will turn the rpm.

[(engine rpm/gear ratio) X (prop pitch in inch/12 inch/ft) X (60 min/hr)] / 5280 ft/mile = theoretical speed in mph.

There's virtually no way to get 60 mph out of a 22 pitch or less.
