Ive got a 90 galaxy 18 footer w/ a 3.0l mercruiser w/ alpha 1 od. My prop is pretty banged up, and I wanted to get a new one. Only problem is the boat is a state away and I cant remember what size the prop is. Can anyone help?

Thanks,

James

Re: Prop size?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the best way to size your prop is with a WOT test. You need to know the correct WOT RPM's for the motor. Correct size can change over time as the motor gets "tired".

I realize this advise doesn't help a lot if you can't get to the boat.

Re: Prop size?

Take a look at the Michigan Wheel web site. Has all the references to match your prop. The 3.0L Alpha 1 will take a 15.5 X 15 prop. WOT for the 3.0 lt. mercruiser is 4800 rpm. You can vary the pitch of the prop depending on the needs of your boat. Michigan Wheel website is a good educational site on props. Good luck.

Good Sport... That's basically what my question was... what should my WOT be for this motor?

personally, 4500 seems as high as I would want it to scream.. but that's just me... will check out that site and see if they have any info .

thanks
