Can anyone tell me what size prop is standard on a 1986 Mariner 50 hp 3 cyl.? Where is the data located on the prop I have on it now?

Re: Prop size

Take the prop nut off, and the washer, the numbers are written on the prop.

Re: Prop size

Pulled the prop. The only number on it was 48-73140-15. What is the dia. and the pitch of this prop? Thanks for any help.

Re: Prop size

Looking at the michigan wheel cross reference chart......

The only number that is close, that suits a 50hp mariner 1986, is 48-73140-A40 - that's a 10 1/8th(diameter) X 15(pitch).

Re: Prop size

Thanks Dunaruna. I will check the prop again to see if there are any other numbers.
What I'm trying to do is, get an idea if I can put a different prop on this boat. I have a BassTracker TX-17 bassboat and at WOT all I can get is 24-25 mph. This boat is not that heavy for a 50hp with pwr trim. Again thanks for all the help.

Re: Prop size

Found the A40 #. Is there a troubleshooting tip for my tach? The tach maxes out at 3000 rpm @ WOT. Drops below 0 with the ing. off. I need the tach to find a better prop for this motor. Any help? Thanks to all.

Re: Prop size

First thing to check is the settings on the back of the tach, yours should be set on 6P.

Re: Prop size

Thanks Dunaruna. I'll check that in the A.M. Any idea what size prop would give this boat alittle more top end.

Re: Prop size

You should determine your WOT RPM's (accurately) before you start to swap props. There are also other considerations to get the best from a bass boat but I'm not the one to help in that department, I'm sure that others will chime in.

Aldo

Re: Prop size

15P sounds a bit too high for a 50HP & 17ft boat. The 50HP on my 14.5ft boat gives me 5800 rpm @ wot using a 14P prop. My 60HP runs with the 15P prop.

You -need- an accurate rpm reading before trying to find most suitable prop. I'd think a 13P or 14P would be better suited for a 17ft boat. You'll not get much more top end as a result of dropping pitch... 25 to 28mph would seem reasonable depending on the load.

Re: Prop size

I am running a Classic 50 on a 15 ft tri hull (fiberglass). It has a 13p alum and turns 5650 rpm (running light). I feel that a 17 foot boat and a 15 pitch is too high to get to proper WOT...

Re: Prop size

Thanks to all. Checked the tach setting, it is at 6p. Now I really need a prop. While checking the tach, hit something on a sandbar and dinged the prop up. Looks like it's blendable. The tach is the main issue now. Any troubleshooting tips?

Re: Prop size

After checking the tach setting myself, the setting on the back is set at #2, (not 6P} the selector scale is 1 thru 4. Is this the correct setting for my 50hp 3 cyl?
