prop size for 200 ocea npro

I have a 200 johnson ocean pro on a 21 ft hydra sport that has the wrong size prop on it. rpms are to high .does anybody have any Idea what size I should use? there is a 15 1/2 x15 pitch on it now

What model HS? What kind of rpm do you get now? Is the 15 in good shape? I would think a 15 pitch is a bit low and you should be better with something with a little more pitch.

i have a 93' 21' hydrasprt cc with a 93 200 ocean pro (aviator pic). i'm running a ss turbo ultima 4x14,.25x17p 48mph @5900 rpms. had a ss 3x14.5x19p ran 46 mph @ 5650 rpms. have tried many props the 4 blade is the way to go with these hulls. better hole shot, reverse, rough water power. can stay on plane at lower speeds. also fuel economy is noticably better. ps i had to work on engine hieght to get best performance. these are great boats and motors whatever you do try to keep wot rpms between 5800-6000 to ensure long engine life. good luck.

Its a J200VXSIF 2001
I think someone swapped props when I bought it . I wet tested it and it RPMs went to 7500 and I didn't open it all the way up I new that was not right. I buy and fix boats to resell .for a hobby so I want everythg right. somebody might have the same boat and motor. and i could try that.

there is a rev limiter that will only let it rev 6700 or 6200 depending on pack. so i would think the tack is off. what is wot speed?

Ditto, the tach is off. Make sure it's set on position 6. Even if you by-pass the limiter that stator gives up at about 7100-7200.

I emaild hydro sports tec, support. he got right back to me and said it should have came with a 15 x17 aluminum prop.Mine has a 15 1/2x 15
Also said to have the tack adjusted.
I looked on the back of my tack I cant see anything to adjust to 6. just electral connections.

Im will try to find one on craigslist or somewere used. a new one probabley cost more 6 packs than i want to spend

If your tach doesn't have adjustments then it's probably not a 2 stroke outboard tach. Don't spend any $$ on a prop until you get the correct tach installed.

Im pretty sure Its originial tack. Im going to look again and see if there is anyway to adjust it.

Originial or not it could be the wrong type regardless. OMC owned HS back in the early 90s and they still mounted trim tabs incorrectly. Just because a "factory" installed something doesn't guarantee it's right.
