Hello all, I'm fairly new to the boating world, just picked up a 20' Weeres pontoon last year. It has a 1990 60HP Johnson and currently a 14x13 prop that is in bad shape. I'm limited on info, no tach or GPS to read speed currently. Pontoon is only used to cruise around the lake with my family and occasionally fishing. I really don't need more speed, wondering if I should stick with a 13P prop or maybe step up to a 15P. Is there any benefit to using a 4 blade with this combo?

Re: Prop shopping

Without info its all pretty much guess work It would seem to me a 13 is a little too much prop but without present rpm and speed;; you might try a 12" pitch.
A 15 is way too much.A tiny tach is reasonable and easy to install then maybe a friend has a gps for speed. Its important that your motor operate within its rpm range. To much prop(high numbers) it will lug possibly creating premature repair problems and poor economy.Too low a pitch may cause over reving also putting stress on the motor and wasting fuel.I do feel the 12 is closer than a 13.And as you cruise, not running at max rpm you will be ok. Just not a peak efficiency.
