Prop shaft borderline question

Didn't want to hijack the thread below. I have marks on my propshaft(86 merc 60), not enough to catch a fingernail, 3 lines in the seal area that you can see it the right light. The shaft area where the seals seat is clearly rubbed, probably worn a little but not something I can tell by eye. Can I get these marks out with 400 grit emery cloth or is the shaft done for?

I have a slightly used one I can sell ya. ;)

Honestly, I ended up trolling around on ebay. Wasted a couple hours, but I found a new genuine quicksilver shaft for $100 shipped. There were a few out there cheaper. It's just not worth risking the $50 worth of bearings and seals I just bought, plus the time it took me to pull it out and put it back in.

I don't think you had a choice, that shaft is done for without some machining in my opinion. The marks on mine were small enough they went away with 20 minutes of steel wool. I pressure tested and am about to water test it.

Seals are all holding well, I checked the oil after 14 hours and no water, no leaks. So, on to other problems. Thanks to all who posted.
