What's the best way to remove a prop. I know the manuals say to use a piece of wood to hold the prop, but can you just put the engine in gear to hold the prop stable or will this damage the gears?

Re: Prop Replacement

You can try it in gear. The wrench might turn the motor over and be sure THE KEY IS OUT AND THE IGNITION IS OFF!!! I sure hope no one put your prop nut on tight enough to use that much pressure. The whole operation is very simple. Be sure to clean the prop shaft and the sleeve inside the prop, coat with a light coating of marine grade grease and re-install. The prop nut is not torqued, just tight enough to hold the prop down without any freeplay (along the shaft).

Bob
