I have a 73 Johnson Seahorse 6 hp. Motor calls for an 8 x 7-1/4 2 blade prop. I noticed last summer when I got the motor from my father that one of the blades is bent badly. Looks like it caught the bottom when the boat was being pushed back from shore or launched. The bad news is the motor was used like this moderately the summer of 2010 because my father didn't notice it.

I have ordered a replacement prop. I am curious though if the existing prop could be repaired and how would I do it or where could I take it to have it re-shaped? Other than the bend on the one blade it is in good shape. It would be nice to have a spare if the old one can be fixed.

Lastly, is there any chance that other parts of my outboard could be damaged due to the prop being ran like that a dozen or so times?

Thanks prop experts for any info.

Re: Prop repair

A prop shop can make that prop like new. Bent blades cause vibrations and vibrations can damage seals. Keep an eye on the lower unit oil to make sure you are not getting water in it. BTW, I'm Barnacle Bill on C.C.

Re: Prop repair

Most likely your fine but if the gear lube hasn't been done recently you should do it.
We can explain how if necessary. Note the color or any water present.

Good deal, now to find a prop shop near Lynchburg, VA. So cool to meet a CCer on here.
