Just bought a 2 hp evinrude (2520) 1975. I want to take the prop off to run it in water but the key won't come out. I have tried every thing I know and it just will not budge. Any body had that problem?? Would I be able to drill it out? .....Bsandy.....

Cotter key, right? I would imagine it will be a mighty tricky thing to drill out, since it is (or supposed to be) stainless steel and quite long. and in a soft aluminum or plastic propeller.

If the cotter pin is that stuck, imagine what the propeller is going to be on the shaft. Ouch.

Probably worth the $20 they might charge you to do it at a Johnson/Evinrude dealer.

You might try soaking it with a few squirts of penetrating oil over a few day period. But you still need the proper tools too.

Swing by a dealer, they will have it off for you in 10 minutes.

Yes I can imagine what the prop would be on the shaft. I will take the good advice and let the dealer handle it. Maybe leave it alone, it's been on there 34 years I would guess so whats another 34????.....Thanks....bsandy....
