I have a Stainless Steel Prop for a 1985 Force 85hp.
Problem is it has a spun hub.
I stopped by west marine and asked them and they said they can send it out and price to re-hub and recondition starts at $160.
Seemed high to me since the prop is in great shape and all I want done is the re-hub.

I then looked at hub kits...but couldnt find one for a 85 Force 85hp.

My other option is I found a place online that charges $65 plus shipping both ways, though I would rather take it somewhere local.

So, looking for a place close to St Petersburg/Tampa.
Thanks for any recommendations.

Go to HMS hubs. You can buy a hub for 20 bucks plus shipping. Buy the 80 durometer VS08 hub for stainless. If you have access to a press, you can re-hub it yourself. Otherwise I'm sure any good machine shop will do it for less than 50 bucks.

Frank, thanks so much.
After I posted that question I stumbled across a post of yours talking about HMS...I sent them an email, they suggested the VS08...and I ordered it.
Going to try to do it myself...I have access to a good press.

Will post back after I do it!

I don't know which post that was: I did write a couple. However search out the post which explains how to use a tapered bearing race and soapy water to insert the new hub. Be certain you press in the new hub to the correct depth, flush with the front or closed end of the prop inner hub.

You will also need some stout slugs or bars of an appropriate diameter to push out the old one.

And, of course, the new hub is splined only halfway down the inside. Please be certain to insert it the correct way: splines toward the prop nut.

The thread I saw was indeed the one that mentioned the tapered bearing race and soapy water.
Thanks for the info and especially for the heads up about HMS Hubs.
