I have a 1985 Merc 150, does anybody know when the change was for rating horsepower at the prop, from powerhead??

In late 80's JohhnyRude's brochures states both. Can't say for Mercs, but any dealer would know.

Re: Prop Rating Horse Power

About the time the I6 140hp turned into a 115hp. Maybe late 70s to 1982 I have heard for Merc. My '73 150 I6 runs about 120hp on the prop calculators and about the same as 115's. I tweaked it a little, more timing, etc. It is hard to find like hulls to compare though. I have a 17' Checkmate vee hull with no pad and run 54mph. My speedo is one year old and runs slower than any other boat/jetski I race by 2mph or more. Not found a GPS yet.

Re: Prop Rating Horse Power

My boat is an old Reinell around a 1976 year, 17 foot. With no one in the boat but me she will do 55, all trimed up , my dealer says 1985 was the switch from powerhead to prop rating, my motor is a 1985 150 Merc. I am new to outboards, I had a 17 foot swiftsure with a Merc 470 in it, it would do 44 miles per hr.
