I just bought a used sea nymph with a johnson 50 hp vro. Put in water for the first time saturday and it ran fine. Went out yesterday and was coming out of a no wake zone and accelerated for about 3 seconds and stopped moving. All of a sudden the motor was running fine, but the prop was not turning. What happened??????? Luckily I was able to get towed back to a launch site. This is pretty scary stuff to happen to you, especially toward dusk with the wind picking up. What do I do now?????

Re: prop quit turning..........

The hub should be loose, and you may see rubber chunks protruding from it. Put the motor in forward gear (ignition off!), and try to turn the prop backward (wear gloves, so that you don't cut yourself). If the prop turns independent of the shaft, you spun the hub. If the shaft turns with the prop, you have an internal problem with gears or shafts, or shift linkage.

If you're unsure, remove the prop and take it to a prop shop for inspection.

This is the most common cause of your condition.
