Are there any Mods you can make to a stock prop to improve performance? I was told that filing the leading edges would help. Any truth to this?

Re: Prop Question

what are you trying to do ?

about the only thing you can do your self is vent the prop which will allow it slip at low speeds which will help the holeshot on some boats

Re: Prop Question

Let's start with what engine you have, then what you are trying to achieve. When you say 'perfomance', what do you mean? Better hole-shot, high top speed, better holding in tight turns, less fuel consumption? Performance means different thing to different people.

Chris...........

Ok here is more information. Its a 19" Bowrider with a 4.3 Liter v6 175hp Alpha 1 with a 19 pitch prop. The main use is Wakeboarding. What i am looking for is better low end and less speed fluctuation
When pulling wakeBoarders

Re: Prop Question

venting your prop will be the cheapest thing to try. It is expiremental on just the size you need, start small. A 4 or 5 blade prop would be a better solution, also something like smart tabs would probly help you alot.

Re: Prop Question

If you have the money get a high five or similar.they give amazing hole shot.they will also allow you to plane at a slower speed.A 19 pitch would be fine. The top speed will be lower but you cant win at both ends.

Re: Prop Question

What i hear you saying is that you want to stay on plane at slower speeds, just about the speed the boat falls off plane. Smart Tabs (Trim Tabs ) will do this, but unless you add weight to the back of the boat (bladders) the wake will be smaller. However you should be able to hold plane at about 15 MPH. which will provide a nice wake anyway. Acceleration to plane will improve, porpoising will be eliminated, and top speed will improve as well.
