Afternoon guys, well my 88 FD196 O/B is going to have an 89 Merc 150 Black Max on it.. I need to get a new prop for it but the motor is in great shape..

All of those in the know about props.. What should I look for pitch wise and size wise for this particular set up, three bladed or 4 bladed, pros and cons.. I don't do any skiing or tubing anymore but mostly fishing from it.. And going out with momma, slowly of course in the mosquito lagoon and inland water way....

Thoughts?

Do some reading in the Prop Section.
Also if you post this in the prop section you will get a ton of answers.

Thanks, I was kind of hoping someone in here with the same hull style and weight would have a recommedation.. This 88 196 hasn't changed much.. hull is definitly the same as the newer ones..

Great place to check for ballpark info is from Mercury

http://www.mercurymarine.com/propellers/prop-selector/#

I suspect you'd be fine with a 3 blade with no watersports or hole shot a priority. If they do, consider a 4 blade.

Aluminum vs SS will also be your choice but aluminum would be a solid cost effective choice. (you can get sizes from the prop selector, and check iboats for the Solas props, I hear good things on these forums about them)

Hopefully that'll give you a good starting point.

Thanks Nelson, I'd found that the other night but the engines they list only go back to 2000 they don't list an 89 carburated 2 stroke on their listing there..

From reading your post I was think a SS 3 blade about a 15+ x 16 or so...

With the HP rating being at the prop that year, if the gear ratio is the same, I'd suspect the same #s on a 2000 will be pretty close. I ran through with your #s and got the same #s you did.
