Hey guys I have a 1991 Basstracker 18 foot fiberglass. It has a johnson 110hp v4 on it. I can't read what prop is currently on the motor as I cannot read any markings on the prop at all to determine whats there. The boat seems to get on the plane pretty well. My issue is the cruising rpms. The cruising rpm on the boat is over 6000rpm and the motor is rated for 5500rpms. What would be a good prop for this motor?

You can't determine where to go until you know where you currently are, propwise. I'd take the prop off and send it to a local prop repair shop and have them determine just what the pitch is. Based on your current rpm readings, you should go up one prop size (two pitches) in order to bring your rpm's down somewhat (about 300 rpm's.) ie: if you find you have a 17 pitch prop, move up to a 19. Those bubble back crossflows will make reliable hp up to 5700-5800.

Have you removed the the nut and thrust washer holding the prop on the outboard? The size marking should be on the hub under the thrust washer.

I have not taken the prop off yet because I thought the markings were supposed to be on the outside?

I have a 17.5 bass boat with a 110 on it. I hit 6K RPMs at WOT unloaded with a 17 pitch SS prop...about 5800 RPMs loaded..perfect prop..6K RPMs is just fine for that motor. I run my oil a little on the heavy side.

If you have an OMC/Bombardier prop, there are markings on the prop which will tell you the pitch. If you have a Michigan Wheel prop-they are not marked with the pitch like the OMC's. There is a 3 or 4 digit number which must be cross-referenced to their book/chart-a pretty obscure process.....
