Pu the 77 Galaxy in the water for the 1st time after getting it running. Got a little water coming in from somewhere and found out the bilge pump doesn't work. After 3 hours the engine wouldn't idle. I'll be changing points, plugs, rotor and cap. My question is about the prop pitch. On muffs, WOT was a shade over 4000rpm. On the water the most I could get was 3000rpm and the boat didn't really feel like it was on plane. Would dropping the pitch take care of that. Also, previous owner installed planing wings that attach to the cavitation plate. Are those worth it or do the hurt more then help?

You will not be able to tell on the muffs in the drive, the eng. is not under a load do your tune-up and water test it.

Re: Prop Pitch

An awful lot depends on what motor you have but running any motor wide open without a load is begging for disaster.
