Prop Pitch Question

I have a '94 Vindicator 200 Model # E200STLERK. What is the appropriate prop for my engine? Right now I have a Shooter 13 1/4 X 25 on her, but am wondering if the pitch is too high for my engine. Can anyone verify that I am just being a worry wart, and tell me the prop is ok for my engine? :D

The reason being is that I have heard horror stories about overpitched props, and how they can do severe damage to a powerhead and cause a lot of problems down the road if they aren't corrected.

Re: Prop Pitch Question

You have given us absolutely nothing to work with. Without wide open throttle speed and rpm with an average load we can't possibly help you.

Re: Prop Pitch Question

At full throttle with an average load, the RPMs should be at or near the full recommended RPM. I don't know what that would be on yours, but I'd assume at least 5500.

Re: Prop Pitch Question

I'm sure you can find suggestions for what prop to use, but it will not be accurate like you will get here if you provide the requested information as these guys really know what they are talking about from real world experience.

Take a peak at the position of the antiventilation plate in relation to the keel as well. Raising the engine mounting is often necessary to get the most out of a prop. That should be checked and done before spending money on props. In other words, optimize the setup first.

Re: Prop Pitch Question

On our last V6 looper I ran a 17 or 18. On the one before that I ran a 29 for drag racing and a 34 for top end.

There is no "standard" prop. You need the one that will put your rpm at around 6000 with an average load with your hull and your set up.
