Hi guys,

I had my outdrive stolen and was looking into buying a bravo 3 drive to replace the stolen bravo one. My boat is a 23' cuddy (4200lbs dry) with a 7.4L 454 merc (300hp). the outdrive i'm looking at is a '97 bravo 3 with a 2.0 ratio. what prop pitch would be best for my boat? The wot is 4600rpm.

thanks in advance,

Chuck, the bravo3 drives have exceptionally low prop slip and very good acceleration because of the dual props, but the props are very expensive and are not as easily obtainable on the used market.

If that is what you really intend to do is buy one give me some numbers on the prop you use to run and I will see what I can figure out for you.

Hi H,

I have bought the Bravo 3 (2:0 ratio) and the old bravo one was 1.65 ratio running a 21" pitch ss mirage prop.

thanks

26" props would get you as close as possible to the 1.65 and 21" combo.

I have a 25 foot cuddy, with a dry weight listed at 4300 lbs (6000 lbs actual weight, fully loaded) with a 454 (7.4MPI, 310 HP) and a 2.0 drive ratio and I run 26" props. Mine will go right to 4600 RPM with a medium load. Tops out around 48 to 50 (GPS) with a medium load.

I happen to know of a pair of brand-new Bravo 3 26" props for sale for $375. Guy also has a Bravo 3 prop wrench for $25. I have nothing to do with the sale, just passing on info. PM me if interested.

I was thinking that cupped 24" props *might* be a better option than the 26" props, but are hard to find used. Not many boats run cupped Bravo 3 props. I tried some and did not like them.

Here's the math, in case you care:

21"/1.65 = 12.73" per engine revolution

26"/2.0 = 13" per engine revolution

25"(which is what a cupped 24" prop is most like)/2.0 = 12.5" per engine revolution.
