Prop pitch and load questions...

I have a '74 inline 6 mercury 150hp outboard attached to a 16' CV-16. I need a new prop, as a peice of wood took a chunk out of my old one. The prop I have now is 19 pitch, and I know that's too small because at WOT I can get about 6500 RPMs. If I get a new prop that is 20 or 21 pitch...that should be perfect. What I'm wondering about is pulling skiers and having the boat completely loaded down. At that point, with a 20 or 21 pitch prop, wouldn't WOT be under 5k RPMs? Is that really bad?

Carleson CV-16, what a cool boat!

You are correct. Get the 19 redone for pulling the skiiers etc and the 21 will certianly give you more speed.

You may be able to swing something even a tad higher depending on what you want to turn for rpm.

Youre on the right track! good luck!

Re: Prop pitch and load questions...

If I just wanted to go out for the day...with say, 3 people and a big cooler, would I really need to change the prop for something like that? I would still like to drop everyone off and speed around...without having to change the prop.
