I just had my prop on my 1975 Merc 650 65hrs 3cyl motor adjusted down from a 13in pitch to a 11in pitch to hopefully get another 300 rpms at wot. My question is, when I got the prop back it was totally clean and looks like they put a new rubber (gromet?) on it, what should I use to clean the grease and grime off my prop shaft and then what grease should I use to replace the grease with?

Thanks

Use any degreaser and apply a thin layer of MARINE grade grease.
It is important to use marine grease as it will last a lot longer (one full season or until you service the thing during next winterization).

Not to be stupid and if so I'm sorry, but can you be more specific as to the marine grease? Where do I get it and what exactally, if you don't mind, is recommended? Thank you so much.

The grease will say Marine right on the tube.
SHould be able to get it at most hardware stores or auto parts stores.

General note on marine grade grease & other lube:

When composing these products a special attention is made to the conditions under which they are is used.

Many think that ie. standard universal grease is "water resistant" but it is not. For a short time yes, but not for regular use.

For some applications marine products have to cope with water, salt, sun, long time sitting and still work. Automotive gear is not meant for this and as the price is (approx) the same, it's really just a matter of picking the right item from the shelf.
