Prop Installation

I'm doing general maintenance on my Johnson 25HP motor. After removing prop to grease shaft etc. I am now reinstalling castle nut and new cotter pin. My question is that the Johnson motor manual that came with motor reads "Install new pin through propellar nut and shaft. DO NOT lossen propellar nut to align holes. Spread ends of cotter pin to secure the assembly" The hole for the pin is just barely past the castle nut's slot when tightened pretty snug on the shaft. I am afraid to go to the next slot on the castle nut. What would you suggest? I am pretty strong armed and don't won't to over tighten the nut and cause a problem.
Thanks-Relicman

Re: Prop Installation

Howdy, Relicman. You will need a torque wrench. Remove and reinstall the prop, torqueing the nut to 10 ft.lb.. Then tighten it further to the next alignment that will allow installation of the cotter key. You will be spot-on.

Happy ripples.
JB
