At this time I have pulled the old prop and have a star like washer and a nut. how do I install the new prop ?
and what is the tourqe spec. I feel star washer then nut then tighten good but I would like you guys advice. Also should I buy a new star washer and nut ?

John

Re: Prop Installation

John, The star(spline washer) should go on after the prop is slid on the propshaft. It serves as the washer betwenn prop nut and hub.The nut should be installed finger tight and then tightened just enough to line up with cotter pin hole.Insure the threads on propshaft are clean and free of burrs.Chase with the proper die nut if necessary and use a good triple guard grease on the spline and threads.

Re: Prop Installation

Theres no cotter key just the spline washer and nut, not even a hole on the shaft from a previous key, this is why Iam thinking there is a tourqe spec.

Thanks
John

Re: Prop Installation

averyj, Did a search on prop nut torque for merc and it stated that the torque spec was 60-70 ft lbs , however it mentioned if cotter pin didn't line up after torquing to back nut off slightly until it did.Since yours doesn't have a cotter pin or hole I'm at a loss to advise.maybe one of the merc guys will post in shortly and get us straightened out on this matter.

Re: Prop Installation

Just put the prop on then then star washer
then your nut thighting to if you have someone
hold the prop thighten to that.
Then bend about 2 or 3 or the star waher on to the nut so will not come off.
LOOK IN YOUR BOOK.
Rex

Re: Prop Installation

averyj, As Rex mentions, See if the washer has means of locking tabs to bend over onto nut flats.
