I need to replace hub in a Michigan prop: stamped 13 X 15. Prop was seized to my '96 , 75 hp Honda. Had to use torch and special incantations to remove prop. Old rubber hub destroyed. Are the hubs for these (stainless) props all standard, such that I can give info regarding dia. and pitch, then have hub sent to me...or is there more to it?

Re: prop hub

Probably prop dimensional dependent; maybe half a dozen standards out there.

I never tried it but it's probably not hard with an adequate press. I don't know how many psi it takes to drive one in but surely it takes a lot since the rubber to metal interface has to resist some serious torque for a long time on the larger diameter props.

I always took mine to a prop shop where they not only did the installation, but checked the runout on the installation to ensure vibration free performance.

Go to HMShubs.com. Rubber hubs for all newer props are carried there. The rubber hub for a stainless prop is 80 shore durometer while hubs for aluminum props are 70

800-272-hubs (4827)

Pressing in is not difficult at all if you have a press. In a pinch, a bottle jack and home made frame will do. Hubs are pressed in with a 2-6 ton press and a tapered ring. I use the outer race from a tapered roller bearing. Soapy water is used to lubricate the hub during press-in. Let the prop sit a couple of days to "lock-up" before using it.
