Hi guys.

I got a 19 foot aluminum crestliner with a 150 yamaha.

It does about 55mph and the engine is sitting just around the red line but not in it.

This is with a 3 blade prop stock from yamaha.

I was wondering what a 5 blade with the same pitch would do for me, or a 4 blade.

Please explain what the diffrence is between 5,4 and 3 and if there is a way to have 5 but keep the performance of 3 because i like the way 5 looks.

Thanks.

There is a large number of different prop designs.
Instead of looking for the best in general you have to decide what you want different from the one you have. Props are aimed at different uses and always combines different pros and cons. So it's a matter of finding the right compromise for your needs.

Let us now your boat size and running weight, what rpm you have at WOT and how you expect to use the boat.

I understand that you like the way a certain prop looks but that's the least of a prop's jobs..

In general:

3 blade: Poor hole shot - Better top end
4 blade: Fair hole shot - Fair top end
5 blade: Good hole shot - Poor top end

You may be beter off by buying a prop with a little higher pitch. If you are running a 17 pitch then going up to a 19 pitch would decrease your rpm by about 200. Check the link below and do some research.

http://www.boat-props.com/prop_basics.html
