Re: Prop help

The prop will fit, but it may over rev on your boat. Preferably, you want your boat to reach maximum rated RPMs with your lightest load that you will carry.

What size boat are you going to put it on?

Re: Prop help

Yes your prop should work fine. Keep all of the prop hardware that you got with the prop so that everything will work ok (thrust washer, splined washer, tab washer (new style with holes is best), nut).

Re: Prop help

mrmerc is by far more knowledgable than me on this one, but I feel you will probably be about perfect with your prop, if you haul any kind of load in your boat.

I used to own a 1987 (new) 19 ft. Bayliner Trophy CC, which is a lighter boat, and I ran a 19" pitch Stainless prop on it. It would top out at about 38 mph with only me in the boat, and I believe (this is recollection from 1987) that I was running about 5500 rpms.

I say you try your existing 17 pitch prop, and watch your tach. If it tries to overrev with your "normal" loading/crew, keep the 17 as a spare and buy a 19 pitch for your main prop.

Re: Prop help

You already own the 17 inch prop. The best thing to do is run the boat with it and then you will at least have a point of reference for picking the best prop, and without spending any money. If you are lucky the 17 will work if not you should be able to make a good estimate of what pitch you do need based on the RPM that you get with the 17.
