Prop goes in reverse

Hi

I am in New Zealand (South Island) and have purchased a second hand auxiliary
I believe it to be 2.5Hp and it says "Thruster" by Mercury. When running the prop
rotates anticlockwise, I put a new prop (Plastic) on it and it is a RH prop. I can't
for the life of me find any LH plastic props on the net.

I am aware that 2 strokes can be run in reverse and I have tried starting it in
in reverse and it wouldn't even fire, from what I believe if the motor uses reed
valves there isn't anything that needs alteration for it to run in reverse..?

Otherwise I am stuck on how to solve this problem, also I can't find any Mercury
"Thruster" 2 strokes on the web so is it an oddball unit..?

I have found 12v outboards called "Thruster" on the net.

I think what I have is exactly the same as the Tohatsu/Nissan 2.5Hp outboard..?

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Prop goes in reverse

cant help you with what the motor is.. but as far as forward and reverse goes - this has absolutely nothing to do with the engine. The engine rotates in the same direction no matter what. forward neautral and reverse are all dealt with in the gears.

Model number, serial number, Year ?? , country of manufacture ??

Oh wait a minute.

I see you are from down under.
Everything spins backward down there, just like the water in the toilet.
You are going to have to get a southern hemisphere prop. :D :)
