I have an evinrude 9.5hp with a 3 blade prop. My current prop looks a little too chewed up to me from the PO running over oyster bars and such. I am looking to get a new prop or possible have the old one repaired. I know michigan wheel has several different props that will fit it with diameters from 7.75-8.25 and pitches from 6.50-9.00. Some of these props are 2 blade and some are 3 blade. I use the motor on both 14x32 and 14x40 jon boats with two people and fishing gear. What is the difference between 2 and 3 blade props, and which size should I be looking at? Also, I am interested in a used prop if anyone has them available.

There should be numbers on the prop indicating the size.May only be part numbers but a dealer should be able to tell size.If it has performed well with that prop you should stick with that size.Pitch is the most signifigant
number. Generally lower pitch give more power higher pitch more speed but less power.Like the high gear in a car.You could probably get your prop repaired. If you have to replace it try to get the size off the old one.Your motor needs to operate in its rpm range. It developes its power at 4,500 rpm
my guess is it would max at 5,000.
You shouldn't change sizes unless you know the present rpm at wot(wide open throttle). You may be able to borrow a tach from a dealer if you intend to buy a prop.you could also get a tiny tach.Easy to install and fairly reasonable price. The wrong prop may cause premature engine failure and or poor performance.A 2 blade prop was considered the ideal design but 3 blades is now the norm and give excellent overall performance. Now usually 2 blades appear on small motors.

Would a 2 blade prop with the same pitch and diameter perform differently than a 3 blade? I have a lead on a 2 blade prop with the same pitch as my 3 blade and just want to know if the performance should be about the same.
