ijust rebuilt a 88 dt 150 and it still wont make it up on plane. i have a small 17 foot maxium bowrider. when i called brownspoint marina
paul told me my 19 pitch prop was never installed on a dt150.he told me they came with stainles steel prop.my question is could this just be to much pitch for my set up or is something else wrong.ive been over everything but power pac and cdi. i want to have some fun on the water..... it seems to run fine but no power

Baja:

The iBoats PropFinder does list two 19 pitch possibilities for that motor: a 14 1/4 inch or 14 1/2 inch 3 blade. It may be that this dealer just never uses that prop on that motor. Here's some questions that will help us to give you some advice:

1. How many RPMs are you getting at wide open throttle?

2. Have you checked the height of the motor on the transom? (The anti-cavitation plate should be level with bottom of transom.)

3. Have you checked your tilt angle and trim set up?

4. Have you checked for water under the boat floor? (Water-logged foam)

The dealer telling you "they came with stainless steel prop" sounds like a salesman's line. Stainless steel vs. aluminum won't matter as much as the correct diameter and pitch. Here are all the set ups that are recommended as possible for that motor:

Pitch Diameter Blades
15 14-1/4 3
15 14-7/8 3
17 14-1/4 3
17 14-3/4 3
19 14-1/2 3
19 14-1/4 3
21 14-1/4 3
21 14-3/8 3
22 14-1/2 3
23 13-3/4 4
23 14-1/4 3
24 14-1/2 3
25 13-3/4 4
25 14-1/4 3
26 14-1/2 3
27 13-3/4 4

Hope this info helps.

Until we get the details:

The prop calculator says 19" is OK for your motor when on a 1400 lbs boat (all inclusive weight, ready to go). Theoretically gives you 61 mph.

Re: prop for 88 suzuki 150

hey , thanks for all your help. the anti- cav plate is about 4inches below transom.trim does work fine.the motor is a 25 inch shaft so it looks big on the back of the boat.will i need some kind of jack plate to get the engine up to the right height? i have no tach yet to see how many rpms its turning. but i will be installing one this week.when i pulled the plugs they were wet and black. like its running rich.could it be the power pac or cdi ?
thanks again for your input
rick

If your leg is 4" too long you probably have a long leg motor on a boat designed for short leg?

Yes, a jack capable of raising 5" would do although the best would be a shorter leg.

Guess this is a question of 'practical solution within budget' ?

Re: prop for 88 suzuki 150

It looks big because it is big for that boat. V6 is a 450 lbs motor.
I dunno bout earlier v6 zuki's but later ones come standard with a stainless prop that looks like a OMC raker - I hear they run well. Anyway that motor should easily spin a 19" prop on that boat. Sounds like another problem.

Your boat is probably meant to have a 20" motor on it so your prop may be buried too deep. I would start with the prop shaft center line 4" below the bottom of the boat as a setup starting point.
You could try a jack plate but I doubt you need anymore setback so if you go that route try a Bob's 4 in 1 unit since it can be setup with 2.5" inches setback.
