prop alpha1 gen II to sx drive

hey !

will a prop that was on a alpha one genII drive ( 1995) fit on a volvo sx drive ( 1996 ) ? i found a slightly used stainless prop with the diameters that would be nice for my boat but i,m not sure if the prop will fit.

Ayuh,... If I'm not mistaken, the Volvo has a very different spline....

Also depends on the hub system used in it...

yup, merc is 15 spline and volvo is 13, might be able to get diff hub kit

i looked here at the prop selection side. the merc alpha one ist stated 15tooth spline 4 3/4 gearcase and the volvo sx 19 tooth spline 4 3/4 gearcase. i understand the 4 3/4 is the length of the spline ?

please excuse my ignorance since i never changed a prop so far : the hubkit connects the spline with the prop , right ? the part numbers for the prop ( e.g michigan wheel for merc and michigan wheel for volvo) seem to be the same but with a different hub kit.

i hoped i can use the hubkit currently installed on my drive ( turning point laser II prop ) for the new one ( michigan wheels rapture) but i,m afraid i my run out of luck...

Nope,... As it states, it's the diameter of the gear case it goes onto....

IF both props have removable hub kits, Yes, you can use a different hub adapter...

thanks much for the reply bond - one more question -does the alpha one and sx have the same spline lenght ? ( 1995 alpha, 1996 sx)

the laser II i currently have as well the michigan wheel rapture i want to buy seem to have removable prop hubs .

I sold an OMC Cobra prop (I think SX era) to a guy recently and it installed just fine on his Mercruiser (as far as he was concerned), but the splines are in a different place on the propshaft. I suspect there was less than an inch of spline length engaged. He bought it but I warned him about transferring hundreds of HP through that short engagement. I wouldn't have tried it.

My advice: just buy the correct prop here at iboats. The prices and service are great. Life's too short to mess around with possibly wrong stuff.

thanks gents ! ok, i stayed away from the deal, maybe you are right that its not worth to ruin the spline on the drive.

the prices here are great, but with taxes and shipping to germany they are comparable with german prices. of course- if somebody has a slightly used 15pitch stainless for sale which was on the sx drive he can pm me of course
