I'd appreciate any input on the advisability/difficulty of removing one pedestal seat from my wa cuddy, and installing a back2back lounge seat along the port cockpit side. Boat is a 95 Key West 2000 WA cuddy on which I fish alone 90% of the time. Whether Im alone or not, I find the port seat is too close to the cuddy door and very much in the way whether or not anyone's using it. I could live with it, but had in idea....and then I found a brand new B2B seat for 50 bucks at Boater's World's going out of business sale.
This relates to another issue; there is a bit of flex under both pedestal seat bases when the seats are occupied, but it's worse on the port side.
It does look like the previous owner tried unsuccessfully to remove that port seat, since a few screws are stripped and very stuck. The screws budged just enough, though, to permit a few mm of play and any seal between the deck and seat base is suspect.
So here's what I'm thinking of doing. Get the port seat and base out, evaluate and fix any leak, and then install this B2B seat along the port side of the cockpit. I measured it and it fits when extended. The seat is designed to be installed using thru-deck fitting; I'm thinking of adapting surface-mounted L-shaped brackets instead, like those on the bait tank, so I can bolt the seat in or out depending on the day.
Here's a composite photo to illustrate.
