Problems after lower unit rebuild

i just had both of my lower units rebuilt and one of them started to give me problems yesterday. I have twin VP duo prop dpsm units that was running great for about five hours total since rebuild. Yesterday we shutdown to swim and when we started back up I put it in reverse and would hear a whirring sound from the starboard drive. I put it in forward and everything sounded fine. I shut her down and got in the water to turn the props by hand and when in neutral I can feel the every gear tooth when I turn the prop in either direction. It's not extremely hard to turn or anything but you can definitely tell there's something going on. Anyone have any ideas as to what it might be?

That's was done as I was limping back on one engine. I am just curious as to if anyone has an idea what may cause that after runnin good for several hours. He is supposed to look at it tomorrow but I haven't had any luck getting him to do anything after the sale. I'm not holding my breath. I will probably be stuck fixing it myself.

I hope that's all it is but why would it have gotten out of adjustment all of a sudden?

Also how does that happen?
Also they only have 190 hours on them.

Just as I suspected he promised to look at it this morning and never shows up. This seems to be an on going problem with him never showing up. I am kind of at a loss on what to do. I need my boat back operational but don't want to pay someone a ton of money to fix them 5 hours after being rebuilt.

That's not your problem. You have a cone clutch drive that is shifted in the upper unit.

Bruce can you please elaborate on this? If this is the case he may not be at fault (even though he won't return calls nor look at it) and I can just take my business elsewhere.

Since you have a cone clutch shifting system, if you were out of adjustment, it would not be the reason you could feel the gear mesh while you were turning the prop.
