Recently purchased 2 polaris jet skis

Tried them out

Ran fine

97' polaris 750 & 95' polaris 700

Looked like a steal!!

Took them out on the river, started up great.

Within a hour of starting the the 750 began to almost shutter ( like as if the a cylinder wasn't hitting spontaneously)

As I slowed to check the ski, it began to get worse and worse until it died in idle.

Won't start again.

With in a minute the 700 started doing the same thing.

After swimming 1/2 back up the river with the skis in tow

We look around, still couldn't get them to start. And looked like the skis, it was as if they were not firing correctly.

After letting them sit a couple of hour and pulling the plugs we were getting gas but no fire??

Please help!!!!

Sounds like a bad fuel problem. Are you sure the "gas" is not mixed with water? You might try spraying a bit of "starting fluid" into the air intake. If it fires - fuel is an issue you need to address.

check all your ground wires especially to the brain and the coils , plus the main ground from the battery to the engine, also what color are the plugs when the engine quits, that tells you a lot about the issues and what is probably the cause of the problem. When you checked for spark did you use a new plug or the dirty ones?

It is likely wrong to suggest another forum (and I do love this Iboat forum) but if you happen to google greenhulk you will find a wealth of polaris jet ski knowledge. A polaris can lose fire for a ton of reasons. Getting hot and then failing can be simple cases of bad plugs to a bad coil to a bad stator. Or as mentioned above a simple bad ground. New plugs are simple and cheap. Polaris are picky about what plug. Use the brand the manufacture suggest for your year. Getting hot and then failing and working again when they cool generally lead you to a failing coil or a failing stator. There are posts on greenhulk that will tell you exactly how to test.

NGK BPR8ES plugs. Make sure your fuel select valves are set to the "on" position. Do they run with the gas cap removed? As stated above, check plug colors. Not likely a bad coil, could be a bad stator, but for both to exhibit the same problems, with two completely different motors, I would look at the fuel, the plugs, and the select switches. Fuel system must be completely up to snuff and and updated to be reliable.

Check the HIN plates on the back of the skis for the correct years. The 750 wasn't made in 97 and the 700 wasn't made in 95. Perhaps you have them reversed.....?
